Level 2: Alterations and Hemming

  • Canadian Heritage Roasting Company 2020 11 Street Southeast Calgary, AB, T2G 3G3 Canada (map)

Once you have learned sewing basics, a world of money- and planet-saving skills await you. In this 3 HOUR WORKSHOP, you will learn how to:

  • Hem pants

  • Reinforce worn seams

  • Take in a shirt or dress

  • Shorten straps

Attendance is limited for this intimate coffee-shop venue.

What to bring with you to class:

  • A pair of pants that needs hemming - it can be for you or for someone else. Make sure the desired length is marked, taped, or pinned.

  • A shirt or dress that is too big for YOU (it must be your body we fit it to). Don't have one? Thrift something!

  • A garment whose straps are too long - if it belongs to someone else, make sure it is pinned or marked at the desired length

  • Jeans or pants with worn inner legs (if available)

  • Thread to match the garments above (some basic colours will be available - just bring what you have)

**You do not have to bring all these items, but the more you bring, the more you will learn. We will work together to plan how to approach the alteration, and your instructor will walk you through its execution.

Food & Beverage - Unlike our full-day classes, this is a 3 hour workshop, so food is not included.
However, on-site you will find incredible coffee and delicious snacks and light meals available for purchase.

Previous Sewing Experience: This class is Level 2, which assumes you have taken a Beginner Adult course either with Calgary Sewing School or elsewhere, in the last 5 years. Assumed skills include threading a sewing machine, sewing a straight line, sewing with different stitches, pinning, layout & cutting, measuring.

Tools - Pins, scissors, tape measures, irons, seam rippers, etc will all be at the venue ready for you to use. No need to bring your own.

Sewing Machines - If you have one, bring it! It's best to learn on the machine you'll continue to use. If you don't have one, simply indicate at checkout that you'll need to borrow a CSS machine (no extra charge).

Vibe: Your instructor is a skilled, experienced, warm and wacky lady who loves people and sewing. The teaching is intuitive and casual, and you will be amazed how much you can learn in a short time. The environment is fun and inclusive, with people of every kind being welcome.
