Sewing for the Planet

Textile waste is one of the leading causes of pollution on this planet. Fast fashion and planned obsolescence contribute to an ever-growing over-supply of textile garments in the world. Learning to sew is a FUN, CREATIVE, and IMPACTFUL way to tackle this issue. By learning to mend or transform what we already have, we reduce the need for more. In this 3-hour workshop, you will:

  • Empower yourself to keep heaps of textile waste out of the landfills

  • Learn techniques that extend your clothing's lifespan

  • Discover ways to turn something old into something new and creative, without adding to the problem

CAUTION: Mending and upcycling can be extremely addictive! We make no apologies.

Your instructor will lead you through key skills like:

  • Reinforcing weak or ripped seams

  • Repairing tears

  • Darning

  • Hemming sleeves and pant legs

  • Zipper troubleshooting

  • Machine and Hand Sewing techniques

  • And MORE!
